Suboccipital headaches are headaches that occur at the base of the skull and back of the head. They can feel like sharp or shooting pain in the scalp.

Causes
1. Muscle tension
Tension in the suboccipital muscles can occur due to poor posture, whiplash, or other neck injuries

2. Nerve compression
Compression of the occipital nerves can occur due to arthritis, tumors, or disc degeneration in the neck
Upper cervical instability
Instability in the upper cervical spine can irritate the nerves and muscles in the suboccipital area

3. Emotional stress

Treatments
