Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), a condition that affects the hand and wrist. It occurs when the median nerve, which runs from your neck into the palm of your hand, becomes pressed or squeezed along its course. This can cause numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle damage in the hand and fingers.
The median nerve can be compressed in many areas such as the scalene muscles, the intermuscular septum in the upper arm, the pronator quadratus muscle, flexor digitorum profundus/superficialis, in the carpal tunnel and thenar muscles.
Common causes of CTS include repetitive motions of the wrist, such as typing on a keyboard, working with vibrating tools, or activities that involve extreme flexion or extension of the wrist. Other factors like underlying health conditions, such as diabetes, obesity, or rheumatoid arthritis, can also contribute to the development of CTS.
Active release is a very effective treatment for CTS. We work on the specific areas to free up and allow the nerve to slide between those muscles. A comprehensive stretching and strengthening program are also added to prevent recurrence. We have been able to help many people avoid surgery. There are over 500 protocols associated with ART and practitioners must certify every year.
